Toro Band Staff
Mr. Scott Burgener is the Director of Bands at Mountain View High School. He has been a high school band director in Arizona since 1993, and has taught at Mountain View since 1999. He holds Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Instrumental Music Education from Arizona State University. Mr. Burgener has held various positions in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director's Association (ABODA), including two years as the Vice-President for High School Band Activities, and one year as the Arizona State Festival Coordinator. He is currently serving as the Vice-President for High School Activities of the Arizona Music Educators' Association (AMEA). Mr. Burgener is a staff member of the Arizona Ambassadors of Music tour, a biannual tour comprised of band and choir students from Arizona. John Aranda ihas been the Percussion Caption Head at Mountain View since 2001. He is also on staff at Skyline High School. Prior to coming to Mountain View, he was the Percussion Instructor at his alma mater, Mesa High School. John has a private percussion studio in Mesa, and is also active as a performer in various productions in the Phoenix metro area. Brenna Byrne is the Color Guard Caption Head for the Toro Bands. She started teaching at Mountain View in 2005 as the rifle instructor. She is a three-year member of the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, and prior to coming to Mountain View she was the Winterguard Instructor at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale. Brian Mabry is the Woodwind Instructor for the Toro Bands. He is a music education major at Arizona State University where he studies clarinet with Professor Jorge Montilla. Originally from Illinois, he has been a member of IMEA District VI Jazz Bands, Concert Band, and IMEA All-State Honor Band. In the Spring of 2006 he won the Undergraduate Concerto Competition and performed the Franz Krommer Clarinet Concerto with the ASU Clarinet Choir. You can contact Brian by clicking here.
Adam Nelson is the brass instructor for the Toro Bands. Adam's life has always been engulfed in musical activity. While growing up in Vermillion, SD, he performed in many recitals and concerts as a vocalist and on piano, trumpet, steel drums, and the Horn, which he began at age 10. Horn became his primary focus at the University of South Dakota, where he graduated Magna cum laude with a degree in Music Performance in 2005. In May 2007, he received a Masters of Music degree in Performance at Arizona State University. Adam is second horn with the Mesa Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Arizona Opera, Scottsdale's Musica Nova Baroque Orchestra, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and played mellophone with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. He was the winner of the South Dakota Music Teacher's National Association Young Artist Brass Competition in 2002 and 2004. In the summer of 2006 he attended the Aspen Music Festival and School.
